BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE

College of Home Economics.
Lemo Rockwood received her undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska in
1919 and her M.A. from Teachers College, Columbia University in 1926. In 1929, she came
to Cornell on a Laura Spelman Rockefeller Fellowship to work for a Ph.D. degree in sociology
and psychology with a special emphasis on the family, which she received in 1931. In 1935
Rockwood was hired as an extension specialist in the New York State College of Home Economics.
The following year she was promoted to full professor, and from 1937 until her retirement in
1958 she devoted herself primarily to undergraduate teaching and research.
