Collection Scope and Content Note
Papers include scrapbooks (1925-1945), reports, notes, and miscellaneous manuscript and
printed items concerning Mrs. Rivoire's education in Ithaca, New York and at Cornell, travel
in the United States and abroad, and her later teaching career. Also, diaries (1925-26,
1935, 1941) of her mother, Cecilia Blandford Sanderson; photocopied text for Rural Sociology
I, rewritten by Rivoire's father, Dwight Sanderson, a professor at Cornell University;
Professor and Mrs. Sanderson's letters from Europe (1925-26, 1935) and typescript copies
(1935) of those of their cousin and traveling companion, Flora (Grace) Prince; a guestbook
from the Sanderson home (1930-48); and photographs.
Additional papers include biographical information; information about her work with the
Girl Scouts; biographical files on Dwight Sanderson; sympathy letters on the death of
Cecilia Sanderson; and correspondence with T'ung Shen and members of his family, photographs
and other items relating to Shen. Also files on Alice and John Rivoire's activities with the
Cornell Club in New York, and particularly, its library; and with other Cornell activities,
including the Class of 1941 and the E. Dwight Sanderson Memorial Scholarship Fund in Rural
Sociology; reunion memorabilia; and a Cornell "sneaker phone."
