Collection Scope and Content Note
Included are legal files of Bath, New York, attorneys Guy Humphreys
McMaster and his son-in-law, John Foster Parkhurst, which contain briefs,
summonses, court orders, correspondence, memoranda, accounts, opinions,
notebooks, and other papers, ca. 1850-1900. Also, deeds and related documents
concerning land in Steuben County; legal papers of David McMaster; accounts of
Dr. Andrew Baker, ca. 1828; family and personal letters; a clipping scrapbook;
manuscript poetry of the McMaster family; and photographs, broadsides,
pamphlets, maps, and local historical and genealogical materials.
Papers relating to the practice of Guy M. McMaster (Steuben County
Judge) and his partner, J. F. Parkhurst; contains material pertaining to
history of Steuben and neighboring counties, papers on the organization of the
Urbana Wine Company (1867-1882), the development of the First National Bank of
Bath, the New York Lackawanna and Western Railroad, the Portage Creek and Rich
Valley Railroad, and lumbering intersts in the vicinity.
