Collection Scope and Content Note
Correpondence, letter books, order books, accounts, sales catalogs,
and other business records of the Ninevah carriage factory established in 1844
by Joseph W. Hobbs and operated by his two sons, George and Charles; daybook of
George W. Hobbs (1908-1909); personal accounts and diaries kept by Joseph W.
Hobbs (1875-1903) and George W. Hobbs (1868-1894); papers pertaining to Joseph
W. Hobbs' law practice, his local political activities (ca. 1868-1900), and his
investments, and to the Hobbs brothers' later activities as area real estate
brokers and general insurance agents (ca. 1910-1929); and family
correspondence. Other papers consist of records of the Afton School District
No. 15 (ca. 1850-1930), the Ninevah Sons of Temperance (ca. 1867), the New York
Road Hone Company (ca. 1910-1917), the Susquehanna Valley Telephone Company
(ca. 1905-1917); and personal, financial, and business papers of Mrs. S.F.
Humphreys, who was associated with the Hobbs brothers in their insurance
service and other local enterprises.
