Collection Scope and Content Note
Papers of E.I. White and his family consist largely of correspondence,
leases and other legal agreements, accounts, receipts, inventories, surveys,
and other items pertaining to the acquisition of property for the Onondaga Golf
and Country Club and to such business matters as purchases of additional land,
lease renewals, water supply, railroad right-of-way, and insurance (1899-1919);
papers pertaining to the management of the White Farm at Fayetteville
(1905-1942); correspondence and other items relating to the Memorial Prize in
Oratory established at Syracuse University in honor of Horace Keep White
(1916); newspaper clippings, pamphlets, and other printed material.
Also records of the White Memorial Building, Syracuse (1917-1960);
protograph of Ernest I. White; dedication for Ernest I. White Hall; and
genealogical material.
Also, papers of Horace White, Hamilton White, and their descendants,
including correspondence, ledgers, journals, daybooks, letterbooks, deeds,
wills, broadsides, and other material, pertaining to real estate in Syracuse,
Chicago, Toledo, and Akron, and to investments in Iowa lands. Other subjects
include railroads, canals, turnpikes, mining, and manufacturing. Also, papers
relating to the Onondaga County Bank, the Bank of Syracuse and its successor,
the Syracuse National Bank. Family papers relate to the position of the family
in Syracuse society, and to their social and civic interests.
