OUTPOSTS OF COLD, and BRIEF CANDLE, short stories, poetry, reviews, critiques, and
essays; polemics; literary studies; notes; student work; broadsides; correspondence and
other records concerning "Epoch" and "Cornell Review"; correspondence (approximately one

and "A.J. Joachim"; curriculum studies; drafts of textbooks; and publications and
newsletters concerning national and international writing programs and humanities
programs.
The collection is well described by Hathaway's "I am interested in grammar, rhetoric,
and poetics, intellectual and cultural history. I have spent much time on the
development of poets and novelists, on modern literary aesthetics, on the editing of a
literary magazine, on my own variety of transformational grammar, and on the literary
criticism of the Renaissance and Neo-classical period.
"I am also interested in work/study collaborations at Ithaca House, in publishing
techniques and practices and the small press revolution."
